US-made liquor removed from Liquor Mart shelves - March 2025
In response to American tariffs against Canadian exports to the United States, the Province of Manitoba has stopped selling liquor made in the US. We have prepared some photo and video assets for media on this issue, please see below.
Quick facts:
- Manitoba Liquor Marts are a strong supporter of Manitoban and Canadian products. We anticipate bringing even more of these products to our shelves.
- Customers who would like to see a particular product in Manitoba are encouraged to contact the producer and request they submit their products for listing at mbllpartners.ca.
- Removing products from all stores is a complicated matter to do safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively – both at the store and on the other end at our distribution centre. Customers may continue to see some shelves covered to indicate which products are not for sale while we work through this process.
- Affected products are being held in storage rather than returned or destroyed.
- Licensed restaurants, vendors and other private businesses may continue selling their remaining inventory if they so choose; however, they won't be able to reorder those items from MBLL once sold.
- Licensees may choose to buy US-made products from any private retailers who are still selling through their existing US inventory.
- MBLL’s online commercial ordering window does not display US-made products for ordering, and Manitoba Liquor Marts have removed these products from sale in-store and online.
- Liquor made in the US cannot be special ordered.
- Here is what was communicated to the retail and service industries regarding this matter, both of which are publicly available:

Liquor Mart - Controlled Entrances - January 2020
In 2019, a dramatic increase in brazen thefts and robberies in many Liquor Mart locations reached a breaking point, causing major safety concerns for customers and employees, becoming a significant burden on police services, and costing Manitobans.
Controlled entrances were introduced the following year, resulting in a major reduction in thefts and robberies.
