MANITOBA LIQUOR & LOTTERIES ANNOUNCES DEPARTURE OF PRESIDENT & CEO

Search for Successor to Begin in New Year; Acting President & CEO Appointed

December 14, 2022

Winnipeg, MB – Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries (MBLL) today announced that Manny Atwal, President & CEO, is leaving MBLL early in the new year to pursue an opportunity in the private sector.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d like to thank Manny for his leadership and drive for excellence over these last three years,” said Board Chair Bonnie Mitchelson.

Mitchelson described the positive impact made by Atwal in the early days of his tenure, noting how his swift and decisive action in responding to the thefts and robberies facing Manitoba Liquor Marts restored a sense of safety for employees and customers. This reduced the incidence of theft by approximately 97 per cent and eliminated robberies in Liquor Marts.

Under Atwal’s leadership during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, MBLL sought alternatives to serve Manitobans via online gaming and modernized liquor sales with new delivery and click & collect options.

“We were fortunate to have Manny’s keen eye for innovative and collaborative solutions in generating revenue for the government to help support important programs like healthcare, education, and social services,” said Mitchelson.

Atwal’s last day with Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries will be Friday, January 6, 2023.

Mitchelson announced the appointment of Gerry Sul, Executive Vice President, Gaming and Entertainment as Acting President & CEO while the search for a successor is underway.
